Join us for a delightful picnic day at Pine Street Woods while enjoying the vibrant sounds of the touring band OK2Botay, which translates to “okay to dance.” This lively steel drum ensemble is made up of talented youth from grades 6 to 12 in Tri-Cities, Washington. While enjoying the music outdoors in the meadow, you can bring your own picnic to enjoy and use the Library Bookmobile to check out books or sign up for a library card!

Directed by the skilled Mr. Ben Leggett, this remarkable group of young performers is selected through an annual audition process, primarily from students who have participated in classes with the Tri-Cities Steel Band Association. OK2Botay practices weekly and showcases their talents through numerous performances across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Prepare for an exhilarating musical experience that will inspire you to dance!

Bios:
Kaniksu Land Trust (KLT) is a non-profit focused on protecting land for environmental and community benefit in Bonner, Boundary, and Sanders Counties. It creates accessible outdoor spaces, promotes nature education, and offers land-based recreation for all. KLT partners with private landowners to use conservation agreements for protecting wildlife habitats, clean water, and resilient landscapes. By combining conservation with community engagement, KLT aims to care for the Kaniksu region’s lands and people for the future.

Background information:
The Tri-City Steel Band Association is a non-profit steel drum band for middle and early high school students in Richland, WA. Their band, OK2Botay, will be touring and playing gigs in the Sandpoint area from June 26 through 28, 2025. They are beginning to line up potential performances and are looking for Farmer’s markets, community events (music festivals, movies in the park, etc.), or other family-friendly locations to play in the area. As they are a non-profit, they do not charge for their gigs, but donations are always welcome. Their Facebook page and YouTube channel highlight the band and its music style.
