1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
An important reading initiative - find this reading challenge on ReadSquared too!
Our 1,000 Books before Kindergarten challenge is simple. Read a book to your child, with the goal of reading 1000 before they enter school. You can read the same book 30 times... and count it 30 times. You can read one book each day... or have days when you read fifteen books!
After you finish 100 books with your child, you receive a "1,000 Books before Kindergarten" bookbag. You also receive free books and iron-on patches along the way.
Get started... Read to your child and start logging books!
Community Read & Returns
Read & Returns are little free libraries at businesses and organizations in the community where families can read children's books while there, or they can take the books with them and drop them off at different Read & Return locations.
We have Read & Returns at the following locations:
- Early Head Start
- Head Start
- The Laundromat in Ponderay
- Life Choices Pregnancy Center
- Matchwood Brewery
StoryWalk™ gets children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages from a children's book with related activities are posted along a self-guided trail. Follow the signs to learn and play! And since StoryWalks™ are installed on self-guided trails, you can enjoy them on your own schedule any time of the year!
The Library and Kaniksu Land Trust currently partner on two permanent StoryWalk™ locations:
- Dover StoryWalk™: located at Dover City Park on Lakeshore Avenue near Dover City Hall.
- Ponderay StoryWalk™: located at McNearny Park behind Panhandle Animal Shelter.
Follow our StoryWalk™ Facebook page to stay connected. New titles and their locations are posted each month.
