During the month of September, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a new mission to champion the power of a library card as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chair. A founding member of the Justice League, Wonder Woman is known for strength, compassion and truth. Armed with the Lasso of Truth, Wonder Woman makes a perfect ambassador to support the value of learning and the role libraries play in transforming lives and strengthening communities through education.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff will assist parents and caregivers with saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services for students. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help and technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost-effective back to school supplies available.
The East Bonner County Library District is on a mission to make sure that everyone living in the library’s service area knows why they should have and use a library card. From September 1st through the 30th, we will enter new and renewing cardholders into a drawing for library swag. Currently active cardholders can also qualify by referring friends and family members to the library to get a card. Just tell them to mention your name when they come in to get their card and we will enter you into the drawing.
YOUR 15 MINUTES OF FAME
Throughout the month, we’ll be highlighting stories of how the library has strengthened, shown compassion, and upheld the truth for people. If you have such a story to share, you can email or message us on social media. It can be a long story or brief testimonial. Let us know if you prefer anonymity if your experience is published.
National Library Card Sign Up Month could land you some library swag or your 15 minutes of fame! Participate this month and show your support for libraries.
