What’s All the Buzz About Beekeeping

Learn about beekeeping and the equipment you need to get started. We’ll learn about bees and pests that harm bees and the hive. 

Randy Wilhelm from It’s a Girl Apiary will be bringing an enclosed hive with him to show you what a hive looks like and will share what he has learned from experiences, mistakes, and successes.
Beekeeping is an amazing family activity so all ages are welcome to join us! This will be a good overview for people considering starting this amazing hobby.

About the presenter:
Randy Wilhelm has spent the last 26 years teaching art and desktop publishing at Lake Pend Oreille Alternative High School. About six or seven years ago he became interested in beekeeping. He bought some used hives for sale on Sandpoint Yard Sale and purchased them. He came home from work one day and a swarm of honey bees had moved into the hives he had stacked outside my shop. He went from zero to 30,000 bees in a day with absolutely no understanding or idea of what to do. He has learned a lot since the swarm many years ago and enjoys sharing this fascinating endeavor with others. He has hives down the street from his school that he takes students to and share his passion with them as well.
