Spanish for Travelers
Are you traveling to a Spanish-speaking country? Start your journey with the basics. Learn before you go— key survival phrases, vocabulary, phonetics to read and pronounce words properly, and a little bit of grammar. The focus is on conversation for the most common situations you will encounter while traveling.
Subjects may include:
- Greetings on arrival
- Asking for and understanding directions
- Restaurant ordering
- Key Spanish question words most often needed on trips
- Bargaining basics (money and numbers)
- And much more…
Start your immersion in another language and culture, while still at home. And even if you are more of an armchair traveler and want to learn Spanish this class series is for you.
Current class dates at 5:30 PM:
- Wednesday, January 15th
- Monday, January 27th
- Monday, February 10th
- Monday, February 24th
Additional dates will be added to this series as it progresses, assuming there is sufficient interest in the community.
Instructional materials and tools for learning will be included. Registration is recommended but not required.
About the Presenter:
Jeffrey Calderon, a Library volunteer, was born in San José, Costa Rica and is very passionate about his language. In his words, Spanish is beautiful. He has traveled since 18 years of age through many countries learning different languages and to date, he speaks: Spanish, English, German, Portuguese, Italian and French. He is interested in providing opportunities in our community to not just learn but to converse in Spanish. Jeffery is new to Sandpoint but not to learning and sharing his love of his first language.
By profession, he is a clinical psychologist and is a practicing therapist locally. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and playing the mandolin. And now that there is snow, he is learning to ski.
