Let’s Hike
This summer hike adventure series is designed for ages 6+ and is led by local rangers and other experienced hike leaders. Each hike will commence with a storybook session and an introduction to the ranger or hike leader.
Wed, June 12th @ 9 am – Pine Street Woods hike with Kaniksu Land Trust interns.
Meet at Outdoor Rec Center.
Theme: TBD by Interns.
Distance: 2 miles
Mon, June 17th @ 9 am – Round Lake hike with Round Lake State Park Ranger Bart Gutke.
Meet at the Trailhead near the Boat Launch.
Theme: Leave No Trace – Includes opportunity to become a junior ranger.
Distance: 1.5 miles
Wed, June 26th @ 9 am – Riley Creek Recreation Area hike with Army Corps of Engineers Albeni Falls Ranger Miranda Berg.
Meet at the Park Office.
Theme: Animals and Vegetation of Riley Creek.
Distance: 1.4 miles
No hike the week of Independence Day.
Wed, July 10th @ 9 am – Antelope Lake hike with Scotchman Peaks volunteer and retired ranger Jeff Penick.
Meet at Trail 261 off of Lower Mosquito Creek Rd in Clark Fork.
Theme: Tree Identification. Bring a snack to eat at the lake.
Distance: 3.5 miles. Lots of uphill in the first 1/2 mile.
Wed, July 17th @ 9 am – Wrenco Loop hike with Idaho Department of Lands forester Chad Ramsey (approved use).
Take Wrenco Loop to Johnny Long. Turn north and follow to the parking area and gate at the end of Johnny Long Rd.
Theme: Growing Trees, Logging, and Managing Idaho’s Forests. Free tree and plant identification books.
Distance: 1.5 miles
Wed, July 24th @ 9 am: Clark Fork Drift Yard Nature Walk with Army Corps of Engineers Albeni Falls Ranger Miranda Berg.
Meet in the parking lot.
Theme: Managing a Drift Yard/ Drift Yard Birds.
Distance 0.5 miles
Mon, July 29th @ 9 am: Round Lake hike with Round Lake State Park Ranger Bart Gutke.
Meet at Trailhead near Boat Launch.
Theme: Forest Health – Includes a close look at insect and other animal impact on tree species and an opportunity to become a junior ranger.
Distance: 1.5 miles
A signed release form is necessary to join the hikes.
