What is a StoryWalk™?

StoryWalk™ gets children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages from a children's book with related activities are posted along a self-guided trail. Follow the signs to learn and play! Stories are updated every month.

What's in it for me?

Studies show that spending as little as 15 minutes outdoors can have a positive impact on our health. StoryWalk™ combines the outdoors with literacy, family bonding community connection. StoryWalk™ trails are short, accessible and dog-friendly (just be sure to keep your pup on a leash and bring your own mutt mitts to pick up after Fido).

When is it open?

Since StoryWalks™ are installed on self-guided trails, you can enjoy them on your own schedule any time of the year. Dress appropriately for the weather. Trails may be closed due to flooding or other hazards.

Where are they located?

The Library and Kaniksu Land Trust currently partner on two permanent StoryWalk™ locations:

  • Dover StoryWalk™: located at Dover City Park on Lakeshore Avenue near Dover City Hall.
  • Ponderay StoryWalk™: located at McNearny Park behind Panhandle Animal Shelter.

Another permanent StoryWalk™ location is at Northside School. Temporary StoryWalks™ are installed at various locations for seasonal and special events.

Follow our StoryWalk™ Facebook page to stay connected. New titles and their locations are posted each month.
