Your Library Transformation is the Sandpoint Library’s remodel and expansion project set to take place in 2017. Addressing the immediate and future needs of the community, the transformation will provide adequate space for early and lifelong literacy programs, the books and other materials that you need most, skills development opportunities for people of all ages and appropriate spaces for the activities that are important to our community.

The East Bonner County Library Board of Trustees has opted to take a unique approach to funding this public library building project. Instead of floating a bond and increasing the tax burden on local citizens, the project will be voluntarily funded by the community that values it. Expansion FAQ

Even though The Library building is relatively new (built in 2000), the current size and floor plan do not adequately accommodate space for materials, programs, and services. The decision to remodel and expand is based on your usage and requests as well as input from community surveys and groups.
We are fostering community ownership of the project by asking for your individual voluntary contributions and initiating local corporate partnerships. Funds will not be acquired through a tax levy. Grant, corporate giving, fundraising events and private donations are being sought to cover the $700,000 balance needed to cover the project.
Your library transformation will enhance your visitor experience with clearly defined quiet and social areas, increased access to the materials you need and want, discovery-based learning opportunities for all generations and innovative technology services. Specifically, you can expect to see an expanded children's area, a teen/young adult lounge with post-secondary resources, triple the community meeting rooms space, increased large print and young adult book stacks space, comfortable reading areas, a hands-on learning center, a fire suppression system and increased parking along with added outdoor green space.
We are adding 10,000 SF to the existing 30,000 SF building. There will be a 2-story addition on the SE end of the existing building and 1-story additions on the NW and NE ends. Renditions are available in the lobby of the Sandpoint Library.
The contract with Architects West Inc., of Coeur d’ Alene was signed in early March. AWI was selected because of a favorable history of working with them on the Clark Fork branch building project and for their specialized expertise in library design. The construction bidding process is currently underway.
East Bonner County Library District is committed to using earth-friendly practices in our day to day operations. The building will not be LEED certified, however, energy-efficient elements are being implemented into the design.
Building will begin in late spring of 2017. The plan will include strategies to create as little disruption as possible. The Library will remain open during construction.
Informal public comment is also welcome.

We are committed to keeping the public as informed as possible throughout the life of the project. Updates will be communicated via print media, radio interviews, website blogs, social media posts, community presentations, and events.

Individuals and groups wishing to support the project financially can make building fund contributions via PayPal using the donation button above, via mail or at the Info Desk at The Library; 1407 Cedar Street, Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.
